The Neverending Story

Update on my foot:

Well…… My doctor looked at my toes today and they were much more infected than they were a week ago.  NOT good!  I was hoping for so much more… He said things could go either way (between stopping the infection before it reaches the bone… or losing another big toe.

He took a culture to try to pinpoint exactly what the infection is.  He does know it’s a Staph infection.  He worked on the toes for 30 minutes removing dead skin, etc. and then slatherd the toes in Silver Oxide and wrapped the end of my foot heavily, which means two things:

1.  I can’t wear a shoe on that foot for two days. and..

2.  Without a shoe, I can’t wear the orthotics, which means that the Charcot Foot will be flaring up again.

So for the next few days I won’t be on my feet much, but I’ll be doing ALOT of catching on my comments!!

Oh!  He also gave me a prescription for ANOTHER antibiotic, to be taken along with the first one.  It’s Ciprofloxacin and the first one is Amoxicillin.  Whatever!  I just hope that together they work!  I should receive word on the culture before the weekend and maybe a change of meds AGAIN.

So, if this episode ends badly and I lose yet another toe, all I can do is take a deep breath, smile, move on and be thankful for all of the friends I have made here on Spaces.  You are the BEST and I love you all.

And by the way, I’m unable to comment to any of you tonight!!  &%#+)@* MSN!!

PS:  Aren’t you glad I’m not adding pictures??  LOL!

Well, maybe just one:

Oh, Bob..I’m so sorry you’re having so much trouble. I wish I could help. I hope the culture helps him pinpoint the right med. Maybe even back to IV.  MSN just sucks sometimes, right when you want to make a comment!! Catch you later on messenger..
    hugs,
    Jean

Oh Bob!  Now this is just a temporary set back…the positive thinking is a good way to go.  I’ll think positively as well and if worse comes to worse we can push you around Disneyland in a wheelchair and exploit you to get to the front of all the lines! See….positive thinking!
Take care of yourself and think of all the fabulous things that can be done while off your feet…ooh la la.
    Kisses and love~*R*~

  3. Sanne says:

Hey Bob…sorry to hear that things with your toes aren’t any better :o(  I’m glad to see that you have a pretty positive outlook on things though…that certainly never hurts.  I hope these new antibiotics help and that the doc can figure out exactly what’s going on.  I hope you have a great remainder of the week :o)

I’m thinking of you and hoping that this all ends on a good note.
    Take it easy

    That Toe-dally sucks!!!
    har har har har ….
seriously, I’m sorry to hear that the foot problem persists.
Hang in there. I love your amazing spirit!

FINALLY!  I’ve been trying to comment for three days now.  Hope your foot improves.  Have you tried using any Melaleuca Oil on that Staph infection?  It is reputed to kill it.  I use it for a lot of infections and cuts and bites.  It is a relative of the eucalyptus plant so it is aromic as well.  Loved the Jewish says and all.  Where DO you find all that cool stuff?

    Bob,

Thanks for coming back to my space and telling me that you like my space!

We haven’t had HBO for three years since my car accident either but we are catching up on the series on A&E. I have seen the actual ending of the series now on the "talking heads" type shows and after seeing it twice, understood exactly why David Chase chose to end it that way.

And that Wesley Snipes is another jerk using the race card to excuse paying taxes like everyone else does. Reminds of Richard Hatch (first Survivor winner) who claimed that CBS promised that they would pay his taxes to help the new show to become a winner. Yeah right!

    Now onto your entry ~

I haven’t been able to read your entire space yet but am really sorry to hear about your foot. My brother-in-law has diabetes and ignored the doctors orders for years until it was too late. He got a sore on the bottom of his foot and now only has half of his foot. You on the other hand sound so much more aware that your problem needs to be taken care of and are doing something about it right away. Sure hope that everything gets better soon.

I tried to leave a comment on your space last night when I got home from work but MSN kept locking me out of everyone’s space. I felt "lucky" to be able to have a new entry on my own space but angry that I couldn’t blog walk and comment on other spaces.

I need to scoot to work so will wish you a wonderful day and be back soon to catch up on your space.

    :>)

Meds, meds meds……lord almighty! I guess it’s a good thing that we have them eh? as much as I hate them! Good luck with the gaggers, and I hope to see some improvement on the piggies. Keep up the positive thinking! Hey, would puppy spit help out??? 🙂

Hi-De-Ho young Bob… I am indeed back and you’d have thought I’d have, like a good cheese, matured during my absence…. sadly not… in fact, i’m more like a glass of dodgy wine and have in fact deteriorated with very little hope of being drunk… and that’s drunk as in wine being drunk… not drunk as in me drinking lots of the aforementioned wine and falling over in a rather embarrassing manner… that would be just laughable…

Now listen Bob… i KNOW you missed me but losing toes is not a good way of trying to get me to come back again…. I mean, don’t think it’s not appreciated… i mean… honestly, i’m quite flattered.. but just a bowl of ice cream (but not coffee ice cream… or banana… strawberry or cookies and cream hagen das would just hit the spot…. or mint choc chip….. blimey… i’d cut my own toes off for a bowl of mint choc chip ice cream) would have been enough to lure me back.  I am a man of simple pleasures and erratic commenting… just a note for future reference.

Anyways… your stats will have had a bit of a bolster as I’ve had real trouble trying to leave you a comment.  Your page opened but when I clicked on the ‘Comments’ link the page froze (kinda like mint choc chip ice cream….. in fact your site is the colour of mint choc chip ice cream… mmmmmmmmmm…. iiiiiice creeeeaaaaammmmm…)

But I’m here now and I’m leaving you a comment.

Hope the toes do get better Bob and I’ll catch you later.

    DB

P.S. If i don’t hear from you again Bob, because of the contents of this comment, i will understand….  😀

  10. Louise says:

Only don’t use it after a J or a drink cos shit lethal and I can just imagine you flying about all over the place hehehehe. I hope that these tablets work and get it sorted out soon. Later, you’ve been a right laugh (((BIG HUGS))) and loads of bright blessings xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  11. Raven says:

Whew, ok Bob…although I am a few comments behind you, I have successfully managed to read your entire space, lucky for me that this new space has only been around for a couple of months.  I’m not sure how high I would score on a pop quiz since I do have an 11 year old and a 7 year old added to the insanity, but I made the effort none the less.
As for riding around Disneyland on your lap…I’m sure the Mrs. wouldn’t mind, too much, you know how we Californians are such a friendly bunch, and well….it’s not called the Happiest Place on Earth for nothing!
So let’s see, if I come back 3 more times I should be able to earn my stalker badge before I go to bed tonight!
Everyone needs to have a goal
    Kisses and love~*R*~

  12. Charlotte M Simonsen says:

I do hope that the medication works and you will be able to concur the staph infection…  That’s a tough one.. hang in there… hugs, lottiemae

  13. Raven says:

Of course you can stalk me, it only seems fair.  I’m glad to hear your foot is feeling better, you’ll need it when you meet me at Disneyland!!  Oh it will be so much fun!!
So, I’m heading off to bed but I don’t think I made my stalker quota for tonight…*sigh*
    Kisses and love~*R*~

  14. DragonBoy says:

Bob… you are a gentleman and a scholar… and also most gracious  ***bows deeply***
As for Melissa.. don’t know what’s happeneing there.  I’ve been lethargic in getting back round to commenting to everyone and I haven’t made it as far as her site yet.

Young frankenstien is a genius film and the clip I put up is my favourite part (although there are so many other bits which I could have chosen… Abi Normal…. **sniggers**) and I’ve been sniggering since I put it up which has resulted in a lot of strange looks from fellow work colleagues and people in the street.

Still, the sniggering has atleast distracted me from my usual practice of running around butt naked and screaming about the end of the world so i guess we have to be grateful for small mercies.

Have you sorted out yout i-pod?  I reckon the techies at I-pod have a right laugh thinking up ways to fraustrate us.  I’ve found that the new upgrade to the software that allows you to scroll through your list quickly by displaying the first letter of the alphabet as you’re twirling the round whirly thing (technical terms i know but bear with me) has a short delay on it.  I want something in the ‘M’s’…. So i twirl the whirly thing and it kicks in… A, B, C, D… etc
… okay… getting close now… K, L…. slow right down… one more turn should do it… MNOPQ… dammit… so i take my finger off which means that it resets the first letter thing… so i have to whirl really fast to get it to kick in again…  PONMLKJ oh for goodness sake (or words to that effect… i’m paraphrasing)… but I keep my finger on it this time… so it’s not so bad…
    …K
    …L
    …L

    …MNO…

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH…..  &^%<£$  (*$ £(*&$<+  £&**(£&  (&£*($& *****£(*5)£&*(……….

£300 later I have a new i-pod and so the circle of i-pod life continues… Great marketing ploy for getting you to hurl your i-pod at the wall thus necessitating the need to go out and buy a new one…  or perhaps I’m just getting old? This new fangled music… you just can’t hear the words and there’s no tune to it… I remember the days…  ***drifts off into some inane ramble which is probably best if we draw a veil over***

Anyways Bob… you things clear up.  I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for ya…

    DB  ***thunbs up***

P.S. Love the high forehead look Bob… really suits you.

  15. DragonBoy says:

And that last bit should say… ‘hope things clear up’… not ‘you things clear up’… because that makes no sense at all…. unlike the rest of the comment which is true and accurate reflection of life today…. maybe…

  16. Jess says:

Hopefully the cipro works ! Ya know they use that for people with anthrax poisoning ! I had it once…Cipro not anthrax ….nevermind lol.

I’m really sorry that it’s getting worse instead of better but I really hope the combo of the two meds can get it !

  17. Jade says:

Oh NO, not staph 😦   I fought that years ago– never went to see a dr (husband did)  I sat in hot sitz baths and forced peroxide under my finger nails… you poor thing!!(((((((( HUGS!! )))))))))

  18. Lynn says:

Thank you for being such a fine friend while I was gone having the first of my series of mental breakdowns this summer dear, kind, injured Bob and while I was suffering the horrid pangs of withdrawal waiting for the phone/cable/DSLGateway man to finally bring his slow butt over to our new house!!

I’m so so sorry to read this horrid news about your foot and the toes!!!  DANG MAN!!!  I go away for two weeks and come back and you’re being slathered with cremes and having dead skin sloughed away????   I can’t leave you alone for any time at all can I???   I bet your parents never let you have a party in their house while they went away for a weekend whle you were a teenager either, did they?  Look how you get!  Destruction, maiming, naked feet with silver oxide…

Praying for you.  Serious, sincere prayers.

  19. EbonyWyvernDragon says:

WHOA dude…………. cipro AND Amox?!?!?! Never heard of THAT combination…….. wonder why they haven’t tried one of the newer broad-spectrum ones yet. Staph is TOUGH – very resilient bacteria!Well – you are in my prayers! Please get well soon!HUGS!the Other DragonNote of interest: Cipro was made right here in lil ole West Haven until very recently.
