Helter Skelter

Sorry……. Another ‘Dark’ post!!

Remember 1969?  Charles Manson?  The Tate/La Bianca murders??  As a reminder, Sharon Tate, wife of film director Roman Polanski, was 8 1/2 months pregnant when Manson and his female cohorts broke in and brutally stabbed her 40 times and also killed 3 of her friends.  They then moved on to the La Bianca residence and murdered 3 more people.

They were convicted but the death penalty was illegal in California at the time so they got life in prison WITH the possibility of parole!!  Well, ‘Charlie’ will NEVER be paroled, however one of his ‘cohorts’, Susan Atkins, has served 37 years (the longest a woman has served time in a California prison) and has been diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor, has lost a leg and is bed-ridden!  She got married TWICE while in prison.  She can’t feed herself or even sit up in bed by herself.  She has 6 months to live.

Here’s the thing.  The prosecuter in the case, Vincent Bugliosi , has filed a writ for ‘Compassionate Release’. But many feel that her release would be a ‘burden’ on the State, even though California has paid $1.4 million for her health care since March!  Her hearing is today.

So, what do you think??

Darn it!!  I’m sorry that my posts have been so morbid the past 2 days.  I promise to lighten up…. starting NOW!!

The Major League Baseball All-Star game is tonight.  Last night was the Home Run Derby.  The Texas Rangers Josh Hamilton put on the best show (28 home runs on 46 pitches in the first round!) but Justin Morneau of the Minnesota Twins won it by out-homering him 5 – 3 in the final round.  Hamilton’s show already included a heart-warming angle – He flew in 71 year-old Clay Counsil, the guy who pitched batting practice to him as a kid, to pitch to him – and the redemption element of a player whose drug abuse almost derailed his career and life.

And Finally…..

Here’s the tally from this year’s running of the bulls through the streets of Pomplona, Spain, as provided by the website www.News.com.au in Australia:  The total number injured was 45, and the number gored by a bull was four – including a Bakersfield, CA man – down from 14 last year!!  Sheesh!!!

Yeah, yeah, I know!!  You are sick of this song, but it IS my Official space song!!

Dammit!!  Changing songs!!  So me 25 years ago!!  Old Hippie!!  Still!!!!

Have a Great Tuesday!!

Bugliosi must be in need of press. Please, who will pay her health care if she is released? [Maybe Vincient?]

  2. Beth says:

I remember the manson kaka very well.  What a nightmare that was.  Nope keep her there another 6 months.
What song are you playing anyway.  When I come to your space from spaces home it only shows the post.  No music.

  3. Tracie says:

I think it’s too bad they didn’t have the death penalty in CA!

    Love MG

  4. Jane says:

I think the running of the bulls might be a good thing… from a Darwin perspective.  If they aren’t killed, hopefully they will at least be less able to reproduce.

As for Susan Atkins, I say let her out.  It’s gotta be cheaper to take care of her on the outside than the inside… assuming the state of Cal has to pay either way.

  5. Jill says:

doesn’t matter if they keep her locked up or release her, the state of california is going to have to pay for her care.   if they release her, she’ll be at a county hospital — taking up a bed that someone else needs.  leave her where she’s at.

  6. Jude says:

Well, I don’t really ‘remember’ 1969 since I wasn’t *ahem* even born yet, but I have read Helter Skelter, so I’m familiar with good ol’ Charlie and his family.

I dunno about your system there, but I would suspect she doesn’t have any other way of paying for her medical bills, should she be released, so wouldn’t the state have to pay anyways, regardless?  And what is compassionate about her release anyway?  Compassion for whom?  The victims or the perpetrator?  Sometimes I wonder about the judicial system….similar things happen no matter where you live!

Other than that…I’m not so sure what makes people think running with the bulls is a good idea.  Ask any farmer around if they’d get caught doing it?  I think not!  LOL  Oh well, whatever turns your crank, right?  hehehe

Hope you’re doing well Bob.  Talk soon 🙂

  7. Jaysey says:

They have to pay for her either way–and it’s not like she’s much of a threat these days…

  8. Sue says:

Yup, we’re caught with the bill either way—so she would be better off where she is and not back into society.  Don’t get me started on this—I am WAY against paying prisoners to have TV, Movies, free elective surgery.  They’re prisoners, for God’s sake!  Then treat them like prisoners….

  9. Shelly says:

I can’t sum up my feelings about the prison thing aka crap in a few short words so I’m skipping that one.
Here’s a question…… How many bulls were injured or killed in the running of the bulls this year?  I’ve always wondered that.

  10. Laoch says:

I think she should be released all things considered.

  11. Bridget says:

Oh the mixed feelings of criminals and the jails…. we just had pretty bad happening at one of the theme parks here. Long story but it was someone who has been in and out of the prision system… are we really ‘rehabilitating’ these people or are we(as in the taxpayers) just feeding and clothing some people who will never change? So for this one I"m going to plead the fifth and not comment.
I am smiling though because my boys in blue…the All Star Twinkies, managed some pretty good plays and hits.
Have a great weekend, my friend
