Odds and Ends on a Rainy Friday

To start off, here are some photos.  I live between the beach, the mountains and the desert.  Of the three, the desert is definitely the most beautiful.  My favorite place is Joshua Tree National Park.  You will see why.

I wish the photos were larger… sorry.  Those are all Joshua trees, actually a cactus.

I read today that the House of Representives voted to allow the government to go $1.9 trillion deeper in dept.  How big is $1.9 trillion?

* A 1.9 trillion-mile trip is about the same as 8 million trips to the moon.

* With $1.9 trillion, you could buy about 422 Nimitz Class aircraft carriers, which run about $4.5 million apiece. It could provide Pell grants of $5,000 to about 380 million low-income students, a number exceeding the entire population of the country.

* Hiking 1.9 trillion feet would take you to tthe top of top of Mount Everest 65 million times or to the bottom of the 36,000-foot Mariana Trench, the deepest point in the Pacific, about 53 million times.

* In terms of time, 1.9 trillion seconds adds up to about 60,000 years. And 1.9 trillion hours ago, dinosaurs were just beginning to dominate the Earth… supposedly.

Mind boggling!!!

Now check this one out.  An ad from Toyota:

Over the past few days, there has been a lot of speculation about our sticking accelerator pedal recall.  Our message to Toyota owners is this – If you are not experiencing any issues with your accerlerator pedal, we are confident that you vehicle is safe to drive. If your accelerator pedal becomes harder to depress or slower to return, please contact your dealer.

In the instances where it does occur, the vehicle can be controlled with firm and steady application of the brakes.  Ensuring your safety is our highest priority.

Comment:  WHAT????  Brake hard an hold on??  I saw a photo of a Toyota mechanic using a hacksaw cutting off the ends of pedals!!  What a Load!!

And finally:

Super Prediction

If video games can believed, here’s what the news will be when the Super Bowl is finished:  "David Thomas caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Drew Brees late in the fourth quarter, and New Orleans won it’s first Super Bowl by beating Indianapolis, 35-31 on Sunday."

So sayeth "Madden NFL 10,"anyway.

The popular Electronics Arts game, which accurately predicted the Super Bowl champion in five of the past six years, says Brees will be the MVP.  And EA adds that it correctly simulated the outcomes of the AFC and NFC championship games, within three points!

There’s still time to change you bets but I’m sticking with Manning and the Colts!  Should be a GOOD one!!!  Enjoy your weekend and the game….. and also the food!

Those pictures might be small but they are mighty inviting…man, I miss the heat! I saw the debt thing…I think they must be doing this on purpose..how else could we explain them pushing the financial self destruct button? I’m really glad I don’t own an effected vehicle…what a debacle! I bet you’ll be shocked to hear that I never by sports games Bob…LOL! There I got it covered…have a wonderful weekend my friend!

So glad I bought a Honda…so far so good. Those pictures are beautiful, makes me want another trip out west.

I am surprised that you choose the dessert over the mountains and the sea, that would have been my third choice, although they are all beautiful in their own way. Joshua Tree is legendary for rock climbing, sadly I didn’t get to go there, but maybe someday…

  4. Babblelot says:

Very pretty pictures Bob. I believe those research guys out east and one wrote a book about problems with cars 10 years ago (same problem of today). The cables are not shielded and magnetic interferences are causing the disruptions, like cell phones and high power lines. Those guys make sense. Enjoy the game Bob, oh and the food too!
